So, for years, I saw a client of mine rocking some pretty silly amazing brown double monks strap shoes. Then one day, I finally asked where he got those. To his reply, a store called 'Sid Mashburn' which after a quick google search I learned was a couple of miles from my then condo on the West Side. Now keep in mind this was about ten years ago. So I was still new to Atlanta and social media wasn't what it is today. So finally the weekend arrived, I headed to the store and uncovered retail bliss in the form of Southern X Italian clothing. Which would eventually land me on buying my wedding suit from their shop and have since bought everything from new shirts to records and ties and everything in between.
Fast forward a couple of years, I now live in Chicago and we are at the start of Covid. It is cold, everything is closed, and the walls are getting closer and closer. Being a bit dramatic, but you get the idea. Then I see some announcements on Sid's Instagram Account (@SidMashburn) that he is doing a Happy Hour with Mr. WM Brown Project himself Matt Hranek (@Wmbrownproject). Now, at this point, I had seen a fair bit of content from Matt thanks to his book series 'A Man & His Watch' and 'A Man & His Car' and his magazine and his wife's magazine Yolo Journal. New these two guys were friends and had done business, but didn't realize these guys were drinking buddies. I tuned into these two guys just straight shooting the shit and jamming to some tunes and during a very cold boring time during Covid, it was fun and you realized what social media was really made for, stuff like this.
So you might be asking yourself, why share this story when there is a ton of great music coming out and these playlists were dropped months ago. The answer is simple, the team from Sid Mashburn's Atlanta store also known as 'On The Road,' was up in Chicago this week. I was lucky enough to snag an appointment and was able to not just pick up some fresh new gear, but able to connect with some of the team members who continue to showcase a damn great brand doing great things!
But First, Drinks
Before you jump into jamming to some tunes. I highlight recommend you make yourself a Negroni (@NegronisWithGreg) to set the listening sessions of right. In honor of Mr. Negroni himself, we are going to make the William Brown's recipe since Matt recorded the playlist and session at the WM Brown Farm.
- Step 1. Put your ice into your glass.
- Step 2. Add all the liquids below in any order.
- Step 3. Stir lightly with a spoon.
- Step 4. Put the orange slice half down into the glass and stir a half rotation with the orange.
William Brown's recipe
- 30mL (1oz) Monkey 47 Gin (dry Gin)
