Each week in our ‘Friday Top Five’ segment, we feature five things we thought were interesting, notable, or culturally significant. This week, we're excited to cover a sport that's taking the US by storm: Pickleball. If you haven't heard of it yet, you're missing out on one of the hottest trends in sports right now. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, and it's played on a smaller court with a lower net. It's perfect for players of all ages and skill levels, and it's a great way to stay active and have fun with friends and family. MLPLAY FORMAT MLPlay™ is an innovative gameplay format that brings men and women together on a level playing court. In the MLPlay format team matches are composed of four 21-point games, with the first being women’s doubles, then men’s doubles, and the final two games consisting of mixed doubles. TWO SEASONS SIX BOMBASTIC COMPETITIONS The 2023 MLP calendar features six events across Arizona, California, Florida, and Georgia. The year will be divided into two seasons of three events. In the first season, 12 teams will compete in the MLP Premier Level and 12 will compete in the MLP Challenger Level. The teams will then flip levels and re-draft players for the second season. Story-4:: Gary Vee on PickleBall
Overview: Before we jump into Gary Vee and Pickleball, we wanted to give you a brief blurb on Gary in the event you don’t know who he is… If you don’t, have you been living under a rock? Outside of his businesses, “GaryVee” has spent the last decade pioneering the practice of building a personal brand online through his series of original pillar shows. He documents his life and career through his YouTube vlog series, “DailyVee” and “WeeklyVee,” builds community and offers advice through Q&A shows, “AskGaryVee” and “Tea with GaryVee,” conducts value-packed interviews with other leaders and experts in the “GaryVee Video Experience” and “GaryVee Audio Experience,” gives hot takes on a variety of different topics in culture in “Overrated/Underrated,” and teaches people how to make extra cash on the weekends through garage sale flipping in “Trash Talk.”
Gary Vaynerchuk is a big fan of pickleball and for good reason. He loves how the game was constructed, as it mitigates the vast disparity in tennis, which he thinks keeps many people out of tennis. He also loves that pickleball is a social sport that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy. Pickleball is easy to learn and play, with straightforward rules and relatively inexpensive equipment. It's a great way to meet new people and make friends, as it's often played in doubles.
Additionally, it's a low-impact sport that's easy on your joints, making it an excellent option for people looking for a fun and active workout without putting too much stress on their bodies. As one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, there are always new people to play with and plenty of opportunities to compete in tournaments. Gary Vee is so passionate about pickleball that he has even invested in the sport and owns the 5s, a professional pickleball team that competes in Major League Pickleball (MLP). He is a vocal advocate for the sport and has helped to popularize it through his social media channels and appearances on podcasts and other media outlets.
Story-5:: SNKR News - Basketball Shoes 4 Pickle
Overview: I've noticed that a lot of pickle and paddle players wear tennis shoes on the court. Personally, I'm a big fan of basketball shoes. There's just something about the way they feel and the support they offer that can't be beat. Specifically, I'm all about the Lebron 20's that came out last year. They're stylish and functional, making them the perfect choice for any basketball player. Of course, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to footwear, but when it comes to basketball shoes, I'll always vote for the Lebron 20's.
Pick them up while Nike is trying to fire sale everything to make earnings :).
