“Little Ask” Tracker

I constantly get asked to help on projects, and the asks always take more time than the requester thinks they should. They also ask to compile and add up. So, thanks to a little bit of help from other Canva notion templates. I have developed my own. There are two tabs: the first is the individual tracker, and the second is the summary one.

Transcription - Dailey Blend Show Updates Website, Launches Video

Host Reed Dailey (IG & X - @ReedDailey): This is the weekly rundown segment of the Dailey Blend Show

This is the weekly rundown of the Dailey Blend podcast

All right, everyone, welcome back to the Dailey Blend show with me, Reed Dailey. It is episode 139 of the show, and this is the weekly rundown. If you're new around here, the weekly rundown is a show where we feature things going on across business and tech, what's happening in and around Dailey Blend, and any sort of special projects that I'm involved with, directly related to, et cetera, et cetera. Before we jump in the show, I want to remind you that we are available on Apple Podcast and Spotify for those that are big youtubers. We are both on YouTube and available through YouTube's new podcast feature. And if you're social, you can check us out on XDev, IG and now threads more on that throughout the show. But with all that said, let's get into it.

Everyone leaving open AI raises questions about valuation and potential competition

So, let's start with what's going on in and around tech, in the global, stratosphere, if you will. one of the things that has been very interesting to me is everyone leaving open AI. And it's not just me, but it's everyone else, is sort of fig trying to figure out what's going on. Does this have impact to the valuation of the company as they try to raise a huge amount of money? I think it's the most effort by a venture fund. You know, what's going to happen with the relationship with Microsoft, and more importantly, all these people that are leaving, what are they going to do and what companies are they going to start? So, in the last three weeks, we've seen the three new team members depart, and then one cryptic text message, or sorry, not text message, xdem, tweet, or post whatever you want to call them, talking about how they were sorry to see them leave. And they're, you know, apologized for some weird Jacuzzi incident. So it. It looks like you've got a lot of leaders are just unhappy, maybe with the, change of directions of going from, you know, a, research group and, a nonprofit moving to profit. there could be also some challenges with, power struggle, since a lot of the folks that have departed were largely the ones that oust Sam, Altman. But, what I'm most interested, to be frank, is not the challenges at OpenAI, because I'm still continuing to love their products and solution, really starting to dabble into some of their plugins and integrations with other solutions. But now you're going to just have increased competition coming at it from different directions, and I love it. It's just going to make all of these AI products better and it's going to make it more competitive from a consumer standpoint.

Sticking on with the uh, AI train, I watched the glow up at Apple event

Sticking on with the AI train, I watched the glow up, I think that was called Apple event and I was all ready to buy a new Apple iPhone 16 because I think I've got a twelve or 13 and I can't make FaceTime calls for some reason when I try to, it sounds like gobbledygoop, as my kid says. And so one of the things that I wanted to do was upgrade to the new phone because it was going to have Apple intelligence and then I was promised that it wasn't going to be until the beta of 18.1 and then it was going to roll out. And I got to say I'm on 18.5 or six now on the beta and they keep on adding more and more beta releases. And sure I've seen some incremental updates to the iPhone, but really not seeing the Apple intelligence. So it's kind of holding off to buy the new phone until I'm for sure that the 16 is actually going to launch with Apple intelligence. Otherwise I'm going to wait another cycle, for the new device to launch. I will say one of the big features that I do like and I do a lot of recording of audio and then tribing it is the new or I use notes a ton. And the ability now to record an MP3 and have it translate that MP3 in not real time but near real time is pretty fantastic. You can obviously do the text to dictation and that works great. But now you get both the MP3 or before and the transcription. So like that something pretty cool to look at in terms of broader tech. I wanted to highlight and sort of do like a plug on one podcast for another. So every week, I publish the weekly rundown for Dailey Blend, which is largely, like I said, about what's going on in media, and tech, as well as what's going on with dailey blend and special projects. I have a dedicated tech podcast, the digital deep dive that you can subscribe to on LinkedIn and listen to on Spotify and Apple podcasts. If you're really into a deeper dive on technology and the implications it has on the middle market through the enterprise, jump over to that podcast and you'll get full deep dive dose.

Every week, uh, back to Dailey Blend. So I've been lagging a little bit on some music

Every week, back to Dailey Blend. So I've been lagging a little bit on some of my music, music m Monday updates and sort of found a rhythm for it. Finally I was trying to balance, like, new music exploration, sort of like, what's going on, in terms of what I like, what I don't like. And it's kind of like forcing bands and really trying too hard. And I listen to a fair bit of bands, but honestly, I listen to just a ton of electronic music, down tempo jazz. And so the flow I think I'm going to do is one album a month, a podcast for me. So, like a mixed, then, some sort of, like, playlist or throwback album and then a Sunday session and sort of this from, like, one of my mixes to someone else's. And it makes it more fun for me and also allows me a little bit of breathing room to kind of curate and kind of think and talk through why I liked what. And this is a prime example of I listened to disclosures, new boiler room, like, mixed, and there was a bunch of new tracks on there, one of them which Chris Lake. And I was like, why do I like this track so much? And, like, just thinking through, like, the time in my life when disclosure came out in 2012 and I was kind of burned out on festivals and EDM and ironically, that was when it was, like, all blowing up and I was like, I already did all this for the last, like, five years. I'm ready for something else. And they were like, the fix and just like, getting to love that, that sound. so you'll see much more music Mondays for me, kicking back up, just figured out sort of my flow and process. So, if you didn't go to the website, you can check out the latest mix from kindred. it's a record store and I think they do, like, basically live mixes on YouTube and then post them over on Soundcloud. And it was a great mix from, guy, from disclosure, who's one of the brothers.

We've moved over the Friday top five to a newsletter

next up, let's talk about the, the Friday top five. So we've totally moved over the Friday top five to a newsletter. And it used to be, it was like something that I was considering and then I was sort of, like, doing it. And now it's maybe one of my favorite parts of the week because I feel like it's the most curated piece of content that I'm doing across Daily Blend and all other sorts of platforms. And it's really become a labor of love. I've tried to optimize it to try to, like, get it down to a meaningful amount of time to, like, produce the newsletter, but it ends up being, like, an hour, hour and a half. And I love it, and it's totally a lot of fun for me to do and, you know, play around with, last week we went to, you know, a deep dive in terms of, like, life hacking, and I've got to bring out my notebook here. And, you know, one of the big things that I was really interested in was trying to figure out, like, what's going on and what tools am I using? Trying, to go back to my notes and my trusty notebook here. You, like that? I've got, the Dailey Blend stickers. we did the hi. Hello app, which is my favorite contact, management app. I use this all the time when I'm in and around town. Instead of business cards, people scan it. It's just easy to use. Makes my life a lot easier. Using, HubSpot for my personal life. It integrates directly into my CRM that I'm just using for like, you know, everything from who's at my, paddle and team and kind of like my pool and tennis club to keeping up with friends from college, nothing more. I just like the structure of it. It gives me added fields, notes, comments. I've got special attributes and reporting into it, and I just like that just helps me stay organized. canva is by far like the app of the year for me. I use it from everything from editing this podcast to visuals for Dailey Blend all of my other projects and starting to use it for presentations. I actually even tried it with, the OpenAI API. It was good. It wasn't, I would say, great headliner, for transcribing this podcast and creating social posts and sort of a newsletter brief. I got to say, with the headliner, it's good. It's nothing perfect, but it's always like a good baseline for me. And then I edit from there and just helps me get off the blocks, if you will. And then the opus, clip. So, you know, one of the things that I had talked about was moving this podcast much more into video. And the opus clip allows me to do that, and kind of chop up video. So those are kind of the five things that I was doing or that I showcased in the, Friday top five. If you want to get that newsletter, head over to Dailyblend.com newsletter and sign up for it. It will be the best piece of mail you receive every week. It comes in at Friday, and for some reason, I've been circling in on 06:45 a.m. for sending that. I don't know why that time stuck out to me one day, but anyway, I picked it and kind of signed new favorite time. So those, those newsletters are coming out earlier in the day. Got a lot of feedback that they were coming out too late, so we're going to stick with sending them out late.

Vernon Lowe went to Boston last week for an AGC conference

in terms of just being on the road, I've been traveling a little bit for work. I had the opportunity to go to Boston, last week for an AGC, partners conference. This is a group that I do some work with, we partner with, and it's, deal reviews mostly in the tech space. So there's a nice tie to the digital deep dive there. And I'm going to cover this in more detail. But just, talking about Boston and what I liked, one of the big key takeaways, and I'll tease this out a little more in the Deep Dive podcast was just the fact that 2024 vintage of deals for tech were way down. Just SaaS is way down. Thankfully, the day of the conference, the Fed, reduced the, interest rates by, ah, five basis points. So that was great in terms of the market ripping and people getting excited about things to come from a tech perspective. you know, in terms of Boston. Like one, one thing was we had HubSpot having their conference there this week or that last week, and as a result, all my go to hotels like the moxie, the, aloft, were sold out. So I ended up staying at the liberty, which was an old jail. So I get to say to my family and friends, I was in jail or in a jail. and, it was, it was pretty fun to, to go stay in a jail that's been retrofitted to a hotel and is a historic landmark for Boston, I think, for about 30 years. really cool hotel might be the coldest hotel I've ever stayed at. They just fire up the air cleaning so much, so much so that I had to actually, like, just go outside to warm up. But outside of it being very cold, rooms were great hotels. Really cool. Restaurant was fantastic downstairs. Highly, recommend that one in terms of like, just bumping around town. you know, I would be. The conference was over in the seaport, at Seaport hotel. So of course we did, the, what is it, legal seafood for one of the big parties? we did, a steak restaurant, which was, you know, they're always great. Both of them are great. my go to spots, though, have really become ocean prime for dinner. And real house, for cocktails and real house, if you haven't checked it out, it's on the water in Boston, you can take the water taxi from the seaport all the way over to where, like, the airport is, and you can go into the big fish. What I've done is I've taken, had a drink at, the real house, had dinner, water taxi to the big ship on the other side, and then ubered for like two minutes to the airport. And it was the most fun way to get to your flight. So if you're going to Boston, I highly recommend checking that out, in terms of the brand features. So we've been doing, during the season, obviously, as a result of trying to launch Sheridan through our golf project, we've, been hammering home incredible golf brands that have been just doing great things in and around golf. And as sort of we slow down in the golf season, we're going to be featuring more brands that are on the tech side as well as those that are in and around kind of the markets that I spend time in, which are Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and San Francisco. One of those brands is Smokin hot deals, which is a barbecue place that I found in my town, or I shouldn't say in my town, but around my town in Vernon hills. And so the story was, I was looking for a new grill. Grill I had had was ten years old. It was rusted, it was nasty. To start it, I basically had to turn on the gas, throw a match in there, and then pray that I don't sear my eyebrows, off. And I did definitely burn them a couple of times, including hair on my arms. And so I finally said, all right, enough is enough. Time to upgrade. And so I went to Lowe's, I went to best buy or best buy, I went to home Depot. And it wasn't until this, like, salt of the earth woman who smelled like marble reds was like, laughing at me for my price point and what I was looking at from a grill. And she was like, you're at the wrong shop. So I walked out of there and I googled grill places and was like, basically m 2 miles down the road from, from my local home depot. I phoned smoking hot deals and I picked up one of these prestige grills and, it was way more money than I was expecting to spend, but it was only like a little bit like a couple hundred bucks more than the Weber grill, which I know is a Chicago brand. And I was like, you know what I've had a weber for ten years. I'll try something else. So I've got the biggest grill ever, a searing station, like a rotisserie station. And the reason that I bought it, not just the brand, but from the smoke and hot deals team, was because they do courses and classes there. And one of the classes is coming up is a pizza making class. And I have a green egg and I'm okay at it, but I want to get good at it. I want to start doing these classes, spending a little bit of money so that I'm not like wasting time, energy and affecting things. So I want to do like a pizza cooking class. I want to do a brisket class. I really want to do a sous vide class. And then I want to, do a cocktail class just because these are things that I'm interested in and I want to like, get better at understanding the fundamentals and then, you know, perfecting those fundamentals and then riffing on it. So looking forward to checking that out. I'll give you guys an update of how that goes. And what I'm going to try to do is talk the guys into smoking hot deals and to come in on this show and talking about what it's like to start a brand in a DTC world where you actually have to have heavy equipment and ties to folks, across social channels to get scrappy with your marketing and really compete with big box retailers, on suns. So looking to hopefully get these guys on the show. if you are a small business or an entrepreneur and you want to amplify your message and your voice, direct message me on Instagram. Either at Red Daler aaily Blend. Email me at readily. ah, blend.com. i'd love to get you on the show, talk about, your brand and your journey to launching your brand and what it's like to own and operate your brand, in terms of things coming up on the show, you're going to see some more updates from me on the golf project. we've got some samples from the hats perspective. We put the blue hat on the website. You will see a white hat coming next. We just got that in working on polos and three quarter length zips next. So as soon as those come in, we're going to be sharing those. We're going to probably leak a couple of the, you know, images from our manufacturer, overseas. So you guys can kind of get excited about that. you can follow along on, Instagram at the golf project or, sorry, at, hashtag, the golf. Daily golf project. Got to get my hashtags right. And then we have actually launched a Instagram for sheridan golf. we went with sheridan golf. We might change it to sheridan clothing. For the time being, it's sheridan golf. So go find on Instagram, like follow, subscribe, follow along. let me know. in terms of the format, we're obviously doing the audio and continuing the audio, but we're going to try doing a little more video. I actually just got, off, the phone with the Spotify team, and just video is just doing so much better for podcasters that I wanted to try it not just from the long form, but also from the clips. When we did experiment with this about six, eight months ago, I saw basically an eight to twelve x increase in viewership on the clips than I did the long form content. And so we're going to be using both the, YouTube channels, YouTube shorts, Instagram shorts and reels. Obviously, I'm going to be using opus to help create some of those things. So looking forward to getting feedback on what people like, don't like, et cetera, et cetera. Walter, the show, don't forget to, like, follow, subscribe to the show on Instagram X, Spotify, Apple Podcast, YouTube, et cetera, et cetera. You can get all show notes over@dailyblend.com and with that said, thank you for tuning in, and we'll catch you next week on the weekly rundown. It.
