Story-1:: Let them automate

Overview: Salesforce intends to make Servicetrace part of Mulesoft, the company. Mulesoft is a recent acquisition it made for $6.5 Billion.

While neither party is disclosing losing companies aren’t divulging the purchase price, suggesting it’s a much smaller deal. When Servicetrace is in the fold, it should fit in well with Mulesoft’s API integration, helping to add an automation layer to Mulesoft’s tool kit.

“In a work-from-anywhere world, every minute counts. The urgency of today’s digital imperative is leading companies to increasingly turn to automation to free up employee time from manual work and quickly launch new digital experiences, products, and services. Automation has become critical to business and IT”

Why It Matters: The quote from the article has never been more true. If you are not thinking about hot to automate then you are wasting time. We often say to our teams, do something one, then standardize it and document it, then automate it. If by the third-time of doing something you can’t automate it, then you are wasting your time and the time of others. There are a handful of big players it the automation space, Blue Prism, UI Path, Appian RPA, and Power Automate to name a few. If you aren’t trying to use one of these solutions, the chances are you are falling behind. Fear not, many if not most people have access to Power Automate and you can test the waters. You will be amazed at how easy it can be.

Story-2:: Collaboration looks like in the hybrid era

Overview: What will collaboration look like in the hybrid era? Fresh perspectives, tech investments, and clear but flexible guidelines will help hybrid teams do their best work, no matter how much distance is between them. Check out Asana’s guide to managing remote and in-office workers.

“Try recording your team status updates instead to allow for more personal and effective asynchronous communication. These video recordings provide all the benefits of a face call (tone, expression, etc.) without eating up your calendar. “

  1. Prepare to re-onboard

  2. Carve out consistent times for co-creation

  3. Lead better meetings

  4. Invest in tech for the long haul

  5. Start scheduling offsites

Why It Matters: There are a ton of tools and tactics used to foster a strong working schedule. One area that corporate culture seems reluctant to jump into is the idea that Video is some crazy thing. In the past, I have had the opportunity to work on quick and simple videos and expensive production that requires tons of edits. The takeaway, authentic videos win out over everything. So try videos from time to time, you will be impressed.

Story-3:: FOMO for Remote Workers

Overview: As offices reopen, many organizations are planning for a hybrid workplace. Some employees will work from home; others will head back to the office; still, others will combine the two. How will you engage with your Boss, Colleges, and those who are staying away?

“You’ll know you’ve succeeded when nobody wants you back at the office.”

Why It Matters: There is no right answer here, there is just ideas and concepts. What is great about the article from Alexandra Samuel, it gives you a primer for ways to think about being remote, how to engage with others either up, down, or horizontal to you in the work environment. The biggest takeaway from my end was the way to engage with a supervisor. More recently, the summer months feel like schedules coupled with vacation have made it hard to schedule time with anyone. It is critical to keep open communication channels and to keep everyone informed etc. The concepts from Alexandra certainty ones that I will circle back on over the coming weeks/months.

RD-Being the lone remote member of a mostly in-office team isn’t just a recipe for FOMO—that is, fear of missing out. It can also be an obstacle to your productivity and professional advancement, not to mention the pleasure you get from work. That’s why it’s essential to plan ahead, to protect both your professional effectiveness and your ability to work remotely.

Story-4:: Gyms Matter, Trust Me

Overview: Gympass, the exercise and corporate wellness unicorn that originated in Brazil, today announced a $220 million Series E. The company has seen tremendous growth in the last few months, as more and more people are vaccinated and flocking back to the gym.

Why It Matters: Company’s around the globe need to highlight their value to employees and need legs up to the competition. Providing free gym to employees is one way to get candidates fired up about joining your ranks. Not to mention, employees who work out/exercise are more likely to be happy and perform better than those who don’t thank to this lovely thing called endorphins

RD-Gympass partners only with employers who then pay a flat fee for the platform (an app) which then allows their employees to choose from several wellbeing plans that give them access to myriad in-person gyms and studios, and a directory of health apps, such as Calm. The offerings are broken up into the following categories: physical health, emotional health, nutrition, and sleep. ClassPass already has clients like Google and Morgan Stanley on board.

According to the company, in May, Gympass saw a record 4 million monthly check-ins across its network of more than 50,000 global partners. In fact, for some of the partners, usage hit above pre-COVID levels.

Story-5:: Still Drinking

Overview: Get two or four bottles of restaurant-quality wine, mailed to your door each month as a recurring subscription. Each month’s box is curated by an Eater-beloved wine pro, who takes inspiration from the flavors, regions, and trends exciting them right now.

Why It Matters: So, people are still drinking, no, they are drinking a whole lot more thanks to less money being spent in most other things and the fact that many of us have been locked up in a home for some time. So over the last few weeks/months, have started to see a number of these Wine clubs pop up. Now, with Eater, they are blending their onsite database with local experts to find unique wine (One would assume adult beverages will be next) from that area. It is a cool concept, and we have linked to the site, their social and Scarlett’s profile below.

This month’s curator: Scarlett Carrasco Polanco of Keep It Grand and Eastside Eat + Drink, Minneapolis

Scarlett Carrasco Polanco is the brains behind our August box, bringing her passion for wine (first sparked a decade ago by a glass of muscadet that smelled like oyster shells) to her late summer selections. Scarlett started out at Lucia’s Restaurant in south Minneapolis, sitting in on tastings with the restaurant’s wine buyer; pursuing more wine knowledge as she worked her way up at other Twin Cities restaurants, she became a certified sommelier in 2017 and a beverage director in 2018. She’s currently behind the excellent wine lists at Keep It Grand and Eastside Eat + Drinks, both in Minneapolis and also sits on the board of directors for Twin Cities Somms, a mentorship-focused nonprofit that seeks to elevate the quality of beverage education in Minnesota.
