DJ Sets - 2023
My Favorite Mixes of 2023. Not necessarily released in 2023, but these were the mixes I listened to most last year. To all the DJ's out there who made them, thanks! You helped me get through busy work, house tasks, deep thinking work, and served as a inspiration to me for my own mixes. - Linked Here, embedded below.

Dailey Inspire - Podcasts That Inspire met
Vuori founder Joe Kudla built a 4-billion-dollar company on a risky idea: that men actually cared about the clothes they worked out in. When Joe launched Vuori in 2015, women’s athleisure brands like Lululemon were exploding, but there wasn’t a similar brand that catered to men. So Joe set out to sell men’s workout clothes that didn’t scream “hey, these are workout clothes!” and tried to place them into yoga studios and other small stores. At first Vuori didn’t get much traction – so Joe made a quick pivot to DTC, soon learning that men were more likely to buy activewear if it worked for everything: yoga, running, hiking, or just hanging out. After risking its dwindling cash on a major marketing campaign, Vuori hit its stride, becoming profitable within two years after launch.

Market Trends - Refurbish 2 the Masses
Refurbished items from a manufacturer can provide excellent value for consumers. These items have typically been returned to the manufacturer for a variety of reasons, such as cosmetic damage or a minor defect, and have been restored to like-new condition. As a result, they often come with a lower price tag than brand new items, while still offering the same quality and performance. Additionally, many manufacturers include a warranty or guarantee with their refurbished products, giving consumers extra peace of mind. By choosing a refurbished item from a reputable manufacturer, consumers can save money without sacrificing quality or reliability.

The trademarks, which were filed as of January 18, suggest that a Tiger Woods signature brand will be central to TaylorMade’s expansion into apparel. Adding to the rumor, there have been multiple job postings from TaylorMade in the last few months have referenced a “new apparel division,” according to TW LEGION.

Host Reed Dailey (IG & X - @ReedDailey): The Daily Blend podcast features the latest in business and tech news
>> Speaker A: Hello, Internet friends, and welcome back to the Daily Blend show with me. Read daily if you are new around here. The weekly rundown is where we feature the latest in business and tech. What's going on across daily blend, some special projects and collaborations I'm working on, and much more. Before we jump in the show, I want to remind you that we are on Apple Podcast, Spotify, YouTube. You can like, follow us on social if you're a social type of person on Instagram and X, all at daily blend. And with all that said, let's jump into the show.
I was listening to a lot of music last week because it was cold
So I wanted to talk first about some music stuff just because I was jamming to it, a lot of tunes. It was really cold here the last couple days and so I was listening to a lot of music and kind of revisiting music from last year. And one of the kind, of sets, if you will, that really moved me throughout last year was the bonobos live set from Albert hall. And yeah, I guess you could argue it's a throwback mix, because it came out a while ago, but, it's not like 510 years ago. So what I did is, I posted the set from Albert hall, on Daily Blend. And so you can watch it, you can listen to it. it's on YouTube, obviously. And if you're less familiar with bonobos, he is a musician and, electronic producer and dj. In this particular set, he was actually playing live with a full harmonica or what do you call that? basically a, live performance, band, an orchestra. That was the word I was looking for. If for some reason that doesn't move you, you can check out all past, music Monday features. I've got those linked at daily Blend as well in terms of, dj mixes for me, both daily Blend podcast and Sunday sessions. Nothing new in the last week or two, but I wanted to highlight again that I've posted all of my 2023 dj sets that I've enjoyed that are not mine. they're not necessarily all made in 2023, but these were just like the 50 or 60 sets that I ripped through all year that I just couldn't get enough of. I highly recommend, checking those out. I've got everything linked through Soundcloud, so it's free to listen to. I think you just have to have a soundcloud, account.
Light is exploring ways to improve productivity through digital notetaking
All right, so let's move from music to stuff going on across business and tech and mean, it's pretty loose in what I'm talking about here, but a couple of cool updates that I wanted to share. So, one of my, friends knows that I like not only creating podcasts, but listening to podcasts when I'm on the go, when I'm walking my dog. And he, is a, entrepreneur that has a clothing company. And he sent me over this podcast with the Viori founder, Joe, Kudla. And I think I'm saying his name right. And it talked about how when he was launching Viori. Ah, and if you're less familiar with Viori, it is a clothing and apparel company out of California that has sort of softer earth tone like colors, very soft fabrics, geared towards yoga, running, hiking, and just hanging out. And the podcast is really aimed at discussing just route to market and how when he initially launched, he was looking at the men's alternative to Lululemon. At the time, Lulu wasn't really doing a lot of men's, maybe not even at initially. You know, he was trying to get into yoga studios and small stores and quickly made a pivot to DTC. And that was kind of the unlock. So if you like retail, if you like sort of the origin stories of a brand, I highly recommend going and having a listen to it. I've linked the Apple podcast and Spotify versions of the show, depending on your favorite platform, but, it's worth the 30 or 40 minutes it is to listen to that, podcast. and, I found it really helpful in terms of, I'll call this life hacking, and how I'm optimizing my notetaking. So I find that I like to write, no matter how much I enjoy capturing action items and notes after a meeting or that day or that week. I like when I'm talking to someone, just being able to jot something down. I like to write my goals out. Sure, I type them up, but I first start with pen and paper. And so one of the things that irks me is when you're kind of at the end of the road with a notepad, or you have notes that you've left out a notebook at home, or you lose one, or someone spills on it, et cetera, et cetera. And so one of the things that I am exploring is digital notetaking. I've tried other solutions in the past, but I'm trying out the, remarkable two. And I've heard from many people before I went into this that they really liked it and that they thought it was kind of a game changer. And so I tested out, what was it? The Amazon version of this. And I didn't like it. As much. And so I am going, to use the remarkable two and see how I like it, see how it compares. I'm going to go with the open box version, so it's $278 and then I'm either going to get the pen or the Amazon knockoff, but it's another like $60. So all in. I think I'm in at 310. And so I figure if you look at the cost of these moleskin notebooks, that I can't believe they're like 2025, $30. You just have to get a couple of those. Or I suppose you can get the freebies at the conferences. But, regardless of the sort of, return on investment, if you will, I just was looking for alternative ways. I like the fact that it's not as much connected to the Internet, meaning there aren't apps and distractions, there isn't as much ways to lose focus. And with all of my phones beeping, emails, Twitter, Instagram, you name it, it's nice to just be able to sit down and focus. So over the next couple of weeks, months, I suppose I'll give you an update on my progress with remarkable. And if you're interested, I've got a link to remarkable on dailyblend.com. In terms of market trends that I'm interested in. You heard me mention, likely that I bought the remarkable two, but I bought the open box or refurbished, something that I've been noticing that certain manufacturers are getting into. Lightly used, refurbished, recrafted, whatever their term is for. Someone bought it, wore it, or tried it on, or scratched the packaging and then returned it. And I've bought, I don't know, three or four laptops through Best Buy this way. I've bought, tons of dj gear this way from guitar center. I've bought, all sorts of stuff from, best buy this way, apple this way. I've seen Nikes getting into this and I saw on runnings getting into this. And what's interesting to me is that brands are using this as a way to sort of fly the flag that they are not harmful to the environment when many of them are the consumer brands that are consuming, therefore lots of materials to make the products and ship the products. But I do like the fact that brands are thinking about this and being more conscious. For me as a consumer, I do not care about the packaging that comes in. Whatever I buy, no matter how many times I do a sneaker unboxing. Sure, I think it's slick, I think it's cool, but ultimately it's the product. So when I go to Best Buy and they're like, look, you can buy this laptop or this iPad, but there's no box. I'm like, does it look clean? Does it work? Great, give it to me. I'm going to throw away the package anyway. So I don't care. And, it's really interesting to see a brand like on running who is newer to the game, that one, they have that much surplus. I suppose that's not that crazy, but that they're leaning into it. I also thought it was really interesting Nike was doing it. Nike sort of has decommissioned part of that site, but if you were looking at the pilot program, you had to essentially log in to get access to the inventory with your email. And I think they're doing that to prevent bots from trying to buy up the inventory. But you could get great products for 50, 70% off. And I do not care if they have a little ding on them, from trying them on. It does not matter. I'm going to add scuffs to them down the road. So just something I'm interested in to see how many more brands are going to get on this refurbished, reclensed, repurposed train. And are they going to do it to basically consume inventory? Are they going to do it from a brand and marketing standpoint to say that they are saving the world? Like, what is the angle that the brands are going to do about, leverage this for? So if you've seen other brands that are doing sort of the refurbished to the masses, and you're like, hey, this is a cool brand to check out because they're doing it authentically or they're doing it because it's a great value.
Taylormade files trademarks for Tiger woods and Sunday Reds
Shoot, me a note. I'm always interested in seeing that, next story comes in from a bit of like a rumor mill. Golf Weekly published it, a couple people on Twitter published it. But it looks like Taylormade, has filed some copyrights or trademarks rather, for Tiger woods and a brand called Sunday Reds. The logo that they showed was sort of an outline of a tiger. And I'm fired up about this. I've been dying to know where a tiger was going to go after leaving Nike. My money was on Grayson because his son was wearing some of their apparel. Grayson, is given equity to JT, who's one of his buddies. And I thought it was just a natural fit as Grayson tries to move beyond, or not tries, but has moved beyond golf into lifestyle. And, I guess if you're looking at it from Tiger's perspective, Taylor made has a larger reach, bigger, supply chain, et cetera, et cetera. But, it'll be interesting to see what he actually ends up wearing for. I think it's the Riviera is the first time we'll see him again. And if Sunday Reds is actually the brand, if Tailormade starts to activate a golf apparel brand, and what that means for Nike, I know Melbourne, the, golf apparel brand that's signed Charlie Hull, as well as day is, is kind of coming at it in a different way. They're partnering with Nike, Adidas, and other brands, and basically, they're the curator and they're picking things out. And if you look at what's going on there, it's less, heavy workout meets golf. It's more like very casual, kind of a throwback to an older, fashion oriented, day in golf. And so it'll be interesting to see if Tiger goes more casual or continues down the technical path. He sort of led the charge with, with Nike for 27 years.
One of my hopes is to spend more time exploring my town and state
in terms of the last thing about in and around town, one of the kind of hopes for me personally is to spend time, more time exploring my town, my city, and my state. And it's everything from meeting, carving out time to say, let me meet people in town, let me spend more time in my city, let me explore my state. And one of the things that was really fun when I was at, brewery with my daughter for what we call beers and cheers. She gets chocolate milk, I get a beer, and we do cheers. And I was talking with another patron who was rummaging through their vinyl, and we were just jamming on what he was going to play next. And he came back and handed me a sticker called WMXM. And I was like, what is this, radio station? He said, oh, it's the local Lake Forest college radio station. I have a show on the weekend. I was like, oh, cool. I've been on the radio a couple times doing dj sets in New York, New Jersey, down in Atlanta, and in Richmond, Virginia, of all places. And I always enjoy the fact that you are live. If there's not recorded, you are basically live. And he was walking me through the station, and so when I got home, I sort of checked it out, and it's a fully running station. They've got some great shows. I was live streaming it the other morning when I was just hanging around the house doing, things on a Saturday morning. And they've got a great eclectic mix of everything from like classic rock and kind of jam bandy, all the way through hip hop and a little bit of dance. So it's a little bit of everything. And I just thought that was cool. And I want to go and meet the people that run this. I'm definitely going to buy a t shirt or a hoodie or some more stickers if they have them. I found them in the web store, but I want to get them in person. And, make sure you go check out WMxm M-M-I linked to the website, to the stream and the calendar of shows. If you go to Dailyblend.com and you basically go to the weekly rundown post, you can find all that information.
Greg and I both were sick over the break. So we are pushing on with drink with Greg
All right, moving from kind of going on around town, let's talk about what's going on with drink with Greg and Negronis with Greg. So Greg and I both were sick over the break. We were actually supposed to meet each other in person in Tampa. And just because I was under the weather and then he was under the weather, it didn't work out. So we are a little bit behind on the podcasting for Negronis with Greg's, but we are pushing on with drink with Greg. And we've got, a drink of the week, which is called the curious cocktail. I'm continuing doing my dry January month, which I don't want to say is, like, boring. It's just like nothing. Burgers. It's just like, I feel better. I obviously sleep better. I miss cocktails, miss wine. Is the day of the world? No. Has it been that hard? Not really. There's, a couple of times socially where I'm like, I wish I could have a drink, but not really. It's pretty easy coming off the holiday month of December, and so people aren't really parttering. I think it would be a little harder to do sort of in the spring, summer, definitely in the fall, and kind of holiday season. But, one of the, things that I've been trying is all these, liquor alternatives and beer alternatives and curious, cocktails is very interesting to me. They don't really align to a specific drink. Like, it's not like a Negroni or it's not like a bourbon. It's like something else. And so they've got variety packs. You can buy one offs, you can kind of, flip them based on some recipes they provided. So go over to drink with Greg and you can check them out on our drink of the week posts, and, then be on the lookout for the podcast. Coming up as soon as January kicks back on, or, sorry, January closes out, we'll be getting back to, the podcast.
Greyson has been working on a life optimization checklist for himself
In terms of Friday top five, you have likely heard that we've moved over to a newsletter. last week, we featured the r one rabbit, which is personalized operating system for basically moving a smartphone to actually being smart with a second device. Talking about Popoli, the number one digital business card platform, Fool's gold turns 15. And what that means. A little more about Grayson and, some predictions from Scott Galloway. If you are interested in kind of getting to those archives and being a part of the Friday top five, the newsletter that, thousands of people have gotten, head over to forward slash newsletter and you can sign up for that. And then from a toolkits, I'm continuing kind of looking at my toolkits. I'm going with a working title of life optimization playbook. Like I said, it's a working title. I like it, I don't love it, but, it's the one I'm going to go with for now. And so I've been trying to find ways to keep myself accountable on things that I do daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and things that I have to do basically that are not sort of as scheduled. And so I went through, many different iterations of things, and I finally came up with a daily end of day checklist, which I'm kind of digging. It's actually pretty simple in terms of the look and feel. There are a handful of things I do seven days a week, and I kind of call those out. Then there are five or six lines for things that I'm going to do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I intentionally didn't put Sunday kind of like a day of rest, almost like a cheat day. And then there's just basically some recurring things you do once a week. So, of all the, checklists I've done and templates I've done, this one's the easiest and most straightforward, and that's how it should be. at some point, I'm going to pull these all together and put a life optimization playbook, a whole list of them. and probably think through a better name. But, that wraps it up for the show. Thanks for, tuning in. Don't forget to, like, follow, subscribe to the show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. Check us out on x and Instagram, and be on the lookout for the Friday top five this week.
