Strap in for a freestyle ride on this week's Dailey Blend Show with your host, Reed Dailey. It's March 1st, 2024, and spring is knocking on our doors. Reed shares the behind-the-scenes of podcasting without a sound guy, from the trials of a new Ferrari-like microphone to the frustration of missed recordings.

This episode is a treasure trove of updates: Music Monday features the Brooklyn-based Book Club's intimate boiler room sets, while the Life Optimization Playbook helps you organize your life with flair. Reed and Greg's Negronis with Greg is back, albeit with a recording hiccup, but still delivering the candid reviews you love. Reed's also got a wine recommendation that pairs perfectly with sausage and peppers, straight from a serendipitous stop at Jr wine bar. Plus, get ready for a content-packed Negronis with Greg, the milestone 150th episode of Dailey Blend, and Reed's travel updates from Boston to the sunny shores of Florida.

Transcription - Dailey Blend Show with Host Reed Dailey (IG & X - @ReedDailey)

Normally I record this on Saturday or Sunday morning, but today am trying it on a Friday night

Alright, hey, let's try this out. So hey, welcome back to the Daily Blend show with me, read daily. Today is March 1, 2020. four, I'm blown away by the fact that we're already in March. We got a great show today. Usually I record this on Saturday or Sunday morning, but today am trying it on a Friday night, mostly just because life got a little busy. Unfortunately, I planned this whole show out Sunday morning. I was really fired up. I got up early, get everything done, was planning on recording it. My kid got up early. Then Monday came around and I got busy. And yeah, I didn't record it, but lots know, jump into. But before we do that, let's just remind you that this is available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, YouTube, and if you're very social, check us out on, Instagram and x.

I'm experimenting a little more with audio and lighting for this show

With that said, let's jump in the show. So this will be a, first in a long time. I went out and treated myself thanks to 100,000 downloads. I bought the sure sm m seven db, like the Ferrari of microphones. And I use that term specifically because this thing has been so temperamental. I've got it running into a Zoom Pod Track four. And I've tried three different scenarios to record this show. And I'm pretty sure that no matter how good it sounds, I'm going to return this thing and go get the MV7 USB, which is basically like an XLR or a USB that runs into your laptop. And it's just simple. But we'll see, we'll explore this, a little more. I'll give it one more go. But my money's on the fact that I'm probably heading to Guitar Center on Monday to return this, which is unfortunate, but without sort of a proper sound guy, it is what it is. usually what I do with the show is I do an outline and in very much in a web form, an outline. It takes a lot of cycles. And then I sort of record the show. And then last week I did a lot of notes and prepping for this. And this week I just said, well, I can't really read my handwriting. I can't remember what I wrote. So I don't want to call it winging it, but I do have like.

A bit of an outline, if you will.

I can actually see my whiteboard from here in terms of, the show notes. So let's talk about the fact, I mean, we already ran through for the.

Microphone thing, and I'm experimenting a little more with audio.

The aim here is to get the audio right and then I'm going to.

 Move on to lighting.

And then once I've got lighting right, going to do into more videos.

you obviously can tell that I've tried a couple of videos based on Instagram and YouTube. And what's crazy for me is even with the crummy video quality, it performs eight to twelve x what just audio only does, which is exciting data point.

From a music standpoint, we published music Monday with book club out of Brooklyn

so let's jump into what's going on with daily blend. So from a music standpoint, we've got, this week we published music, Monday with book club out of Brooklyn. If you've been following me, following this show, you know that brother and sister combo are really just crushing it with these sort of smaller, local, more intimate boiler room sets. And I've just really been digging them. the sister, whose name escapes me did this fantastic sort of deep house jazzy set that I've just been jamming to. I think it's up to 2.7 million streams. And then the brother did almost like a progressive house meets deep house set, daytime set that I've just been jamming to; I've listened to a couple of times. So, that's what I featured this week on Music Monday. In terms of, other stuff going on the website, what we did last week was put out the, weekly, itinerary. And, so it's part of our life optimization playbook. It really just helps you plan out your sort of daily tasks, day tasks and weekly tasks. I've been pretty fired up about doing more of that. I want to make a couple of tweaks to it just from printing it off visually. I wanted to compress where the logo and some of the branding were, but everything else looks really crisp and tight. in terms of Drink with Greg, Negronis with Greg. Greg and I were back. we made a fatal error. I wish I could say it was because of alcohol. it was just stupidity. We recorded two episodes. only one of them, we hit the record button on Google, which is a dumb problem. So we got the Negronis with Greg, but we didn't get the drink with Greg episode. However, we used fireflies, one of those AI note taping apps. So in order to get, I guess, an eight-minute show, I've got to go pay someone $30 to buy a monthly subscription and then go cancel that just to get the audio. So I'm not sure if I really want to do that, but, it's available. the Negronis with Greg is up and running on Spotify, Apple podcasts, et cetera. it was a great episode. I think Greg and I came to the same conclusion that the drink tasted very much just like a airport Negroni. So we were kind of like, eh, whatever. I've been mentioning it for a while with DWG and NWG that we're going to do some merch. I've got it all designed. I need to hit the order button. And so I'm going to do that over the weekend. in terms of music and daily, blend, I'm staring at Pioneer DJ gear, so I'm hoping to do a Sunday session recording. I'm going to do some prep work tomorrow. It's supposed to be a little colder on Saturday in Chicago and then very warm, 70 degrees. So I'm anticipating Saturday will be a prep day, Sunday will be the execution day and record that. So I'm looking forward to that. And one of the big things I'm going to put, in the show notes is this delicious cab I bought last night. we were having sausage and peppers, and I had no wine that was reasonably priced for a Thursday night, and I was desperate for a glass. I drove up to Jr wine bar in Lake Bluff and I said, I'm having sausage, peppers. I want to spend $25 to $35. He's like, I got a $42 bottle. I'm, pricing it down to 37, which I never know if it's actually real or just making you feel like you have a deal, but whoever's the, producer or winemaker, for screaming Eagle, made this. And I'm sorry I'm blank on the name, but it is absolutely delightful. So I'm going to share that name and you'll definitely read more about it on drink with Greg. In terms of what's coming down, is, it the pike or pipe, I never know, where Greg and I have a content calendar for Negronis with Greg, so you're going to see more content coming out from that. In terms of daily blend, episode 150 is coming out soon. And, yeah, I've got some trips coming up. I'm going to Boston, New York. Got some stuff going on in Chicago. So if you're in and around the city in Chicago, hit me up. I'll be there at least twice a week, for the next month, Boston next week, New York the week after. So little busy. Then heading down to Florida. So busy, busy. I think, things that I'm excited about. Getting warmer here. really diving into the whistler, recipe book. If you've been following me on Instagram at read daily or my coffee kicks, and cocktails Instagram account, you'll see that I'm running through that cookbook, from drinks with Greg Negronis. With Greg. Every drink of the week for the last month has come out of there, and they've all been complete smashes. Fantastic.

So check those out.

And, yeah, I'm going to round it down. Hope you enjoyed this, episode of the show. Little different, little more freestyle. Probably, shouldn't do it when I'm exhausted. But, I will say I am sitting in a very comfortable chair. Usually I record this at my office desk chair, and it's not as comfortable. And I've got to say, moving forward, I'm only going to. Well, I shouldn't say only, but I think I'm going to record podcasts in this kind of cozy, comfortable chair, because it's just more comfortable. And, have a glass of wine, hopefully, in my hand. enjoy the weekend. Look forward to catching you guys on the daily blend. Don't, forget to, like, follow.
