Weekly Rundown:: Week of April 1st, 2024

Strap in for another Weekly Rundown on the Dailey Blend Show with your host Reed Dailey! This week, we're riding the sonic waves of Shane Smith and the Saints, whose Northern Lights album strikes a poignant chord reminiscent of Chris Stapleton meets Johnny Cash. Reed delves into the rich symbolism of their lyrics and how it resonates with the album title.

Take a dive into the past with our Throwback Thursday feature, spotlighting Tiesto's iconic In Search of Sunrise mix series. Reed's curated a Soundcloud playlist capturing the evolution of Tiesto's sound, from trance to big room EDMβ€”a must-listen for electronic music aficionados.

As we celebrate the milestone 151st episode of the Dailey Blend Podcast, Reed shares his renewed joy in DJing with his latest gear, the XDJRX3, and teases a special themed mix inspired by the In Search of Sunrise series for episode 155. Plus, don't miss the latest Sunday session mix over on Soundcloud, and Reed's current DJ crush, DJ Lily K, whose jazz house and deep house mixes are stirring the pot.

Drinks are on the menu with Tuesday Night Negronis (TNN) and the unveiling of a new Facebook community for Drink with Greg. Reed's also shaking things up with the 'Standing Alone' single malt scotch cocktail, a concoction he'll review on the next show.

For the bookworms, we spotlight Jim Meehan's Bartender Manual from 2027, a nod to the craft that inspired Reed during a memorable bar experience. Keep an eye out for a quarterly digital recipe book from Drink with Greg, a project inspired by The Whistler's approach to sharing their mixology secrets.

Life optimization is in full swing with Reed's Weekly Template, designed to streamline your week starting on Mondays, plus upcoming tools for daily check-ins, quarterly reflections, and a 100-day fitness challenge.

The Friday Top Five has transitioned to a newsletter, delivering a weekly dose of curated content to your inbox, and we're loving the feedback and community it's building.

Host Reed Dailey (IG & X - @ReedDailey): This is the weekly rundown segment of the Daily Blend Show

Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Dailey Blend show with me, Reed Dailey. If you are new around here, this is the weekly rundown where we feature things from music, news, around the globe, and of course, stuff going on in and around Dailey Blend, special projects I'm involved with, and, you know, just a lot of goods in this. before we jump in the show, I want to remind you that the show is available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, YouTube, and of course, all over on Dailey Blend. If you are a social person, don't forget to, like, follow subscribe to the show on, Instagram and X. That's Dailey Blend.

Dailey Blend podcast reaches milestone 151 with latest edition

And with all that said, let's jump into this week's show. So, thanks to my, my good buddies and the, music text chain, I was introduced to Shane Smith and the Saints about a week ago. And the album that we were sharing was good, but what I really liked was their Northern Lights album that came out about a week or week last year, I think. And for me, it was like a mix of Chris Stapleton and Johnny Cash. So, like, kind of riffing and song, structure and, musical structure of Chris Stapleton, but lyrics a little more of Johnny Cash. And what I was really impressed with was, you know, just usually titles don't mean a ton or I don't find meaning or symbolism in them. And in this case, I found a ton of symbolism in the northern lights based on the lyrics. So I thought that was kind of cool, from a throwback Thursday standpoint. So over the last two, months, we've been featuring all of Tesla's back catalog for the in search of Sunrise mix series. And I've just been diving into the mixes and again, and what I thought about was the fact that, why don't I do a summary post? So for this, week's throwback Thursday, you can actually go, to the, you know, Tesla in search of sunrise, mix series, post. And I've listed all of those mixes on Soundcloud. And we actually created a Dailey Blend music soundcloud page. And that's our first, playlist from that. So you can go check out both the, you know, the post as well as the Soundcloud details. in terms of, you know, what's happening with, you know, Dailey Blend podcast. One, of the things I talked about was the fact that we just reached milestone 151 and I'm having a lot more fun with, you know, djing now that I've got just better toolkit, I've got the XDJRX three. So I'm doing, like, thumb, you know, usb, djing now so I don't have to deal with the computer. I also have studio dj. So that just helps me when I'm traveling, trying to put together a radio show or a mix, and I like both of them. But what I wanted to do was, like, more special mixes or theme mixes, almost every, you know, couple, you know, on the fives. And so I thought, why not? For episode 155, I'll pull out all my favorite tracks from the in search of Sunrise series and put together a mix. And I thought it'd be kind of interesting because, you know, at the beginning of the mix series, you know, tiesta was still very much into trance, and then sort of towards the end of it, it was like, as he was kind of moving towards that big room, EDM festival sound. So it'll be kind of cool to see how that unfolds. I might end up, you know, doing remixes of some of those tracks and not just the original ones, but we'll see. in terms of, you know, Sunday sessions, I think two weeks ago, I released, my latest edition. So the March 24 of Sunday session, you can go check that out. That's over on Spotify or, sorry, not Spotify, Soundcloud. And, the DJ that I'm, like, really jamming on right now is a, gal that I found on the Internet randomly, thanks to the YouTube algorithm. And that was DJ Lily K. She had this jazz house mix. she said, jazz house mix for your taxes or doing your taxes. And then she followed that up with a chill Monday deep house mix or, sorry, chill morning deep house mix. And both are great. great song structure, great mixing. All that good stuff. so, DJ Lily K, if you are hearing this, or you see us tag you, please hit us up. We'd love to have you on to the show to talk about kind of, you know, what's going on with digital djing and doing kind of, streaming, as well as, have you on, to do a guest mix for the Dailey Blend podcast,

Drink With Greg

Switching over to drink with Greg. So we are talking about doing Tuesday night Negronis. So tnn not to be mixed with TNT. And, I gotta work on a logo for that. I'm gonna give a couple options and punch that out this weekend. But, you know, one of the big things that we're doing more with drink with Greg is really trying to build a community. So be on the lookout for the Facebook page that's gonna be coming out with drink with Greg. We'll, also be, doing a feature this week on, the drink of the week, which is standing, alone. And it's a single mott scotch. It's, angster bitters, tiki spices, which I gotta go find. I don't have, and lemon juice, so I'm fired up to make that. And next week on the show, I'll kind of talk about that drink and what I thought about it, both on the show and on the drink with Greg. Podcast from, a book of the week. you can go check out Jim, meehan's bartender manual from 2027. I'm such a big fan of Jim and his first book, which was PDT, that was Please don't tell, which was just a fantastic bar in New York City. I don't know if it's actually still open anymore, but thanks, to my brothers. What is it? My brothers bud is his brother in law, I think. Anyway, we got to go sit at the bar, you know, chop it up with him for 2 hours. And I'll never forget a guy, you know, dialing in the seltzer for the gin and tonic or vodka tonic. I was just like, wow, this guy loves his craft. So that was super fun to be a part of and to see, last thing with drink with Greg, we're working on a quarterly book for all the recipes that we're doing. I've been really inspired by what I saw with the team from the whistler and how they produced, a little recipe book. So I think what we're gonna do is produce a digital book through canva that you can download and print off. And we might try to find a publisher for those and have a few made. unclear, but we're definitely gonna make it. and so you'll be able to print it. I don't know how we're gonna sell it or deliver it, but we'll be working on that,

Toolkits and Playbooks

As we closed out one and kind of do them on the quarters, just because that's just easier for me and my brain to wrap around, in terms of what's going on, you know, as we continue to build out the toolkit, like life optimization, which I've said is a working title. And so one of the big things that I'm, like, pretty much done. I get one more change to do is the weekly template. I've got to make a couple changes formatting, and then I didn't like the way that the week sequenced, I always think about my week starting on Mondays, not Sunday, so I want to make a change there. The other toolkits that I'm going to be releasing over the coming weeks are the daily, or end of day check in, the quarterly check in. Since we just eclipsed q one, I actually need to do that personally and so I want to like build a template for that and then edit it and then 100 day challenge. So over the next hundred days, I want to do 100. 100. So 100 sit ups, 100 push ups and 100 squats. And so there's, there's a bunch of these. I found a few that I really like. things that I thought about but aren't as pressing for me is a travel checklist, project planning checklist, and gratitude journal. Those things will come over time, but be on the lookout for the daily end-of-day check-in because that’s going to be coming really soon.

The Friday top five has now moved over to a newsletter

beyond that, don't forget that the Friday top five has now moved over to a newsletter. And it's one of the most rewarding things that I do all week. I get so many emails from folks that I've known or have, you know, found out about Dailey Blend through social or through friends. And it's been just great to get like feedback and ideas. You know, I've got a couple friends that, you know, helped me launch various websites, one in particular. I don't want to name names, but, you know, it was great. I hadn't talked to him in a long time and he sent me, something based on the fact that I posted on WHOOP. And he gave me some feedback, which I just love. So, if you haven't subscribed to the Friday top five, you can do so by going to Dailyblend.com newsletter. And, and you get five pieces of goodness in your inbox every Friday. and, from the show's perspective, that wraps it up. I think last week we kind of talked about, do I like these as ten minutes? Do I like these as 30 minutes? Right now I'm liking them a little shorter. That could change over time. We've, got a couple interviews teed up, so those are going to obviously extend a little longer. and those are our sound off segment. But, thanks for tuning in. Hope everyone has a great weekend. If you are in the north, northeast, or midwest like I am, try to get through these last couple weeks of cold raininess before the hot summer months come in, and be on the lookout this weekend for episode 151 of the Dailey Blend Podcast. Thanks for tuning in. Catch you on next episode.
