Weekly Rundown:: Week of July 31st, 2024

In the latest episode of Dailey Blend, host Reed Dailey takes us on a journey through his latest personal projects, social media experiments, and summer adventures on the golf course. If you're a fan of tech insights, social media strategies, and engaging personal stories, this episode is a must-listen.

Reed kicks off the episode by discussing his evolving approach to organizing his life. With the increasing use of AI for transcriptions, audio conversion, and text summaries, he ponders how others are managing their daily tasks. Are people still relying on pen and paper, or have they transitioned to digital tools like Remarkable or AI agents like Copilot? Reed is curious to hear from his audience about their preferred methods and tools.

Next, Reed dives into a fascinating social media experiment. With Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) and the rising popularity of Threads, Reed decides to test both platforms for his Daily Blend content. He plans to post identical content on X and Threads for Daily Blend, while using Threads more for business-oriented posts on his personal handle. By analyzing the data over a one-month and three-month period, Reed aims to determine which platform performs better and whether the effort is worth it.

The episode takes a sporty turn as Reed shares his recent golf adventures. From playing in a massive 400-person scramble in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to tackling the challenging Oak Tree National course in Oklahoma City, Reed's golf stories are both entertaining and insightful. He emphasizes the importance of preparation, such as studying the course layout and investing in a good yardage book, to improve performance.

Reed also highlights a brand that has caught his attention: Blue Tees. Known for their innovative golf technology, Blue Tees offers products like magnetic speakers and rangefinders. Reed shares his experience with the Blue Tees Player Go speaker, which not only provides yardage information but also enhances the golfing experience with its magnetic attachment and party mode feature.

As the episode wraps up, Reed previews upcoming content, including a long-awaited podcast episode with Rachel J and some of his favorite music mixes. He also shares his travel plans, with upcoming trips to San Francisco and Boston, and invites listeners in those areas to connect with him.

Whether you're interested in AI, social media strategies, golf, or tech gadgets, this episode of Daily Blend has something for everyone. Tune in to hear Reed Daily's latest insights and adventures, and stay tuned for more exciting content in the coming weeks.

“Little Ask” Tracker

I constantly get asked to help on projects, and the asks always take more time than the requester thinks they should. They also ask to compile and add up. So, thanks to a little bit of help from other Canva notion templates. I have developed my own. There are two tabs: the first is the individual tracker, and the second is the summary one.

Transcription - Dailey Blend Show Updates Website, Launches Video

Host Reed Dailey (IG & X - @ReedDailey): This is the weekly rundown segment of the Daily Blend Show

Welcome back to the Dailey Blend podcast. This is the week of July 31, 2024

Reed Dailey: Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Dailey Blend show with me, your host, Reed Dailey. This is the week of July 31, 2024, and if you are new around here, this is the weekly rundown where we feature what's going on across Dailey Blend. Personal projects of mine, of course, what's going on with my partner in crime and I, other ventures, drink with Greg Negronis with Greg, and much more. But before we jump into the show, I want to remind you that we are on Spotify, Apple, podcast, YouTube. And if you're a social person, and I am. We are, then check us out on Instagram and X.

As we're seeing more and more use of AI for transcriptions and audio conversion

With that said, let's jump into the show. So, when I sort of prep for this show, I always put together some notes, and it's just a general outline. I used to write it more, almost like a script, and then I got more comfortable with outlining and sort of storyboard mapping. And one of the big things that I've been thinking about more and more lately is just how much of my storyboarding do I want to do in writing through imagery, almost like a Pinterest board or just like a verbal notebook. almost like you're recording little snippets throughout the week. And I was just wondering, for those that listen to this, as we're seeing more and more use of AI for transcriptions and audio conversion and text conversions and summaries, like, what are other people doing in terms of organizing their life? Is it still pen and paper? Are people using remarkable. Are people using copilot AI agents to capture data points throughout the day so that they can summarize them at night. It was just something that, like, was been on my mind the last couple days, and it wasn't like this was ironically pre scripted that much. All right, enough about that rant.

I want to explore social media through Dailey Blend and Reed Dailey

Let's talk about social, media. And one of the experiments that I wanted to explore through Dailey blend and also a little bit through, my day job. But that's, And we'll kind of talk about the contrasting things. x has been, I don't know, with Elon for, let's call it a year plus. And threads is starting to gain some momentum. But in the same way that I think of Facebook for families, LinkedIn for work, Instagram for, you know, my friends, and, you know, my. My buds, my wife, but probably not like my parents as much. I'm wondering where an x for who, you know, I guess political news and economic news and maybe other things down the road. But, thread sort of is throwing me off because is it for, you know, text and images for my personal life, should I be using it for sort of work related? Should I be using it for Dailey Blend? And so what I want to do is run a test on x versus threads for both Dailey blend. And then I'm also going to do it for Reed Dailey. Now, the difference for the two is on Dailey blend, it's going to be basically the exact same content you see on x. I'm going to push on threads, and then for my Reed Dailey handle, I'm going to use threads much more in a business lens to see how that compares to using x for a business lens and really not much else. Right. So not a lot of like fun imagery. So, you know, I almost compare X will be for business, so will threads. And it's almost like picking up similar content to what I'm putting out on LinkedIn, if I'm being honest. But I want to see, you know what, I'm not going to put any limits. I'm just going to kind of post on my, you know, Reed Dailey platforms and just look at the data and kind of share that back with the audience. Kind of do that over a one month period, a three month period, and then do like maybe a review around Christmas, and a year season. that was just something that I've been thinking about a lot lately in terms of just the data in and around these, social platforms and which channels are really performing better, what assets are performing better, and is the juice worth the squeeze and a similar sort of exercise. I haven't gone that deep, but the few times that I did record this podcast on video format, I found that the YouTube shorts performed, you know, unbelievable compared to any other asset class. So if I'm following the data, then I wonder if it's, you know, if I'm wasting cycles on, you know, threads and x, and if I should just focus on YouTube or do all of the above. The problem I find with all the above is then you sort of just run out of steam and you don't know which content is better for which platform. So anyway, net. Net here I'm going to try out a few things. I'm going to share out some of that data with folks over the coming weeks. I'm interested to hear what other people are doing and seeing that are using social media very much as a awareness, consideration and conversion engine, and probably not as much just like sharing what's going on in their lives. And there's obviously a good balance with that.

Played on the road twice this last two weeks.

All right, so, going from sort of social media technology. Let's talk about golf, because, you know, it's middle of summer. I had the fantastic opportunity to play, on the road twice in the last two weeks. So I went up to Boston to play in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in Pine hill. I think that was. Yeah, that was the name of it. A, ah, 400 person scramble across two courses, double stacked each hole. It was 6 hours and 47 minutes round, which, I'll be honest, was a little long. That being said, did finish up a par five where I, where I hit three shots. Unbelievable. Back to back, to do, you know, an eagle on a par five. It's my first time ever, and it was just a fantastic way to finish. And then. And anytime you're doing a golf event where they're serving you, lobster at the end is a w for this guy. about three days later, I flew down, to Oklahoma City to see my folks. They lived down there. And I got to play oak tree national. And I will call it going from hero to zero in one week. The course was incredibly challenging. I think I lost six or seven balls in the first nine holes. There was a, water, apparatus in the middle, like a lake that sort of, you know, the. The first, I guess the second through, what was it? 7th holes, second through 8th holes, surround. And I found a way to get into the drink almost on every hole. it was one hell of a round. I want to go back and play that course, but, my big takeaway from playing these courses on the road where I don't know them, is buying the yardage book or going on like, the Bushmill app the night before. And looking at the course, I think that makes it a lot, easier to play. Obviously, you gotta hit the ball well, but, that's one of the big things that I'm gonna start doing. I actually ordered, through etsy, a custom what, do you call it a, scorecard? It's more than a scorecard. It's a scorecard in yardage leather, you know, fake croc, you know, what do you call that yardage book with, the Sheridan logo. So I'm interested to see that come through. I put that order in, you know, who knows? But, once I get that, I'll share that, name with you. I just can't remember at the top of my hand. But anyway, it was great to play those two rounds. and, you know, I played my, my sort of third round of the last little bit. Washington over, in a track around my house, and I played with a, friend of a friend's brother. and this guy bombed the ball, and we were up on the tee. I think he hit a 315 yard drive into the hole, and I hit the ball left, just straight left. I, think, when we finish up the round, you know, I sort of basically stopped scoring after I had a couple bad holes, and, he shot a 72. So, you know, same, same, same. but that sort of wraps it up, in terms of talking about personal golf.

Garmin is a speaker and yardage finder company

We're going to do, you know, we're going to talk about brand feature, though, next. And it's going to be golf this week. Of course, we're middle of summer. Well, you know, you can't jump from golf at this point. one of the companies that has been serving meet up ads left, right, and center. So I'm talking IG ads, I'm talking Facebook ads, Instagram ads, YouTube ads was blue tees. And so this is the. The speaker and yardage finder company, that, has the magnetic speaker that attaches to your golf cart. And I don't play a ton of cart golf anymore. Most of the time, I'm walking, and, you know, that's combination of having a caddy, and that's awesome to, like, carrying my bag. And so one of my buddies had the little JBL speaker that clipped onto your bag. And I was like, I want that. And so when I was at the PGA store trading in some gear, I saw this little blue tea speaker, and I was like, okay, it's a little bit bigger than JBL. None of these speakers are going to have any bass. I get that. Why not give it a go? And I did zero research. Was just nothing usual for me. I usually will debate that, that $100 purchase for months. And so I pulled the trigger and, you know, I was like, m maybe I should watch one YouTube video or one review on this speaker. And it turns out there's actually some really cool features on this blue t player. go. I think I've got that name right. And, yeah, it's the player go. First and foremost is it has the magnet just like the player, plus bigger speaker with the screen so it can clip onto your golf cart, or in my case, my refrigerator, so that we don't forget it for the round. it also has a, push button so you can get yardage to the front of the pin, middle of the pin, back of the pin. I think it also gives you some additional, details about the course. Now I don't know how much of that you need to pay for a subscription versus like, I'm on a trial run. So time will tell on that piece of functionality. But what I was really excited about once I learned was the fact that you can pair it with the player plus, which is the big speaker. So my thinking is that, I will go get the player plus at some point it's on. I think it's dropped from like 250 down to 200. and then thankfully I've got a couple PGA superstore. Gift card or not gift cards, discount codes, from my past purchases. So I think we're going to come in at like 100 8185 for it. I. And then I'm just going to be the king of the Munis, king of the carts. And so what I'll do is I'll show up to a round with all the stuff, if you will. We'll use the player plus on my cart. The player go on someone else's. They can auto sync. So with as long as you're within, I think either 150ft or 150 yards, I can't remember, it will sort of sync between the two devices and you're in party mode. So after buying the speaker, obviously I looked into the brand a little more, saw that they have a rangefinder. Right now I have one that works. So I don't have a need for a new rangefinder. And then they've got some accessories. But when I think about what this brand is, they're an equipment brand for helping with excellence in terms of yardage as well as enjoying the game through technology. Connection is that they've got the little yardage, pieces in the screen on the player plus and then audit. You know, they give it to you in an auditory format through the player. Go. If I was a betting man on where this brand goes, I bet you they make some sort of yardage device in a watch, almost like a garmin. And also a lightweight or lower cost launch monitor would be a nice device to compete with the Garmin device. if anyone does know a little more about launch devices, please hit me up on email or dm me. but that's where I would bet this Bluetooth brands goes. in terms of, I think it's solely owned and operated. So it'd be interesting to see who gets on their radar to maybe make an acquisition. We've seen some acquisitions in the content space. I don't have all the details, but we'll get those and share those as part of the brand spotlight over the coming weeks.

Rachel j is running out of time to record her podcast

All right, so that kind of wraps it up for the, brand spotlight discussion, of the week. Let's talk about the podcast that I just keep on running out of time to record. It's, a combination of travel and just crazy schedules and just not having a minute. But, we're finally going to put out, the Rachel j podcast. Been saying that for a couple weeks now, actually. So when I'm finishing recording this, I'm jumping into recording the, buffers, if you will. So the intro and outro of that podcast, and that should be ready to go. So we'll release the, weekly rundown, then we'll release Rachel's podcast either on Friday, this week, or Monday of next week. And in terms of music, stuff, you know, I haven't been publishing that much music Mondays because I feel like I went on a tear of posting a ton of content. But I'm just gonna basically do like a, you know, I guess it should be because we're doing this on Thursday. A throwback Thursday post, of just a couple mixes that I've been really into. one is the diplo mix from space. I don't know if you want to call that throwback. It's about a year old. The other one is a, eight year old mix from Pete Tong that, was from the lab, London. And this really was, like, one of those influential mixes on my life where I was like, oh, whoa. I've hidden sort of milestone. EDM is over for me. It's like this deep house, tech house vibe. And I heard that mix, and it, like, totally changed my perspective of music I was interested in. It's a long story, but I love this mix. and then, you know, I've been, getting ready for a couple road trips here. So I'm heading out to San Francisco next week. So if you're in the bay area, I'm going to be out there for some meetings, with sponsors, and sort of my financial sponsors community. So if you're in the Bay area, hit me up. And then the following week, the week of the 12th, I think it is, I'll be in Boston for a, private dinner and event on the 13th and 14th. So I think I've got those dates right, the Tuesday and Wednesday. So if you're in the Boston area, let, me know and we can go grab coffee. You know, time of year in Boston is. Is the best terms of weather and, yeah, you know, we're in the throes of summer. Gonna play some golf, enjoy the sun, the lake, and do, a little bit of podcasting and, hopefully put out the, next Dailey blend, podcast episode 144 of the dj mix series. So be on the look for that. And other than that, thanks for tuning in, and we'll catch you on the next episode of the show.
